Next stop, paradise (again).

Throngs of SeaExpress ferry riders every day enjoy the spectacular Bermuda scenery while Detroit Diesel 2-Cycle engines provide reliable, smooth, quiet and fuel-efficient power. Since the popular inter-island ferry service launched in 1999, it has depended on Series 71 engines. Now with a fleet of 11 ferries, 8V71s are still hard at work below deck, along with MTU Series 2000 engines.

Francis Richardson oversees SeaExpress. "We're 100% MTU here for several good reasons," explains Richardson. "First, the engines themselves have proven to be very reliable. Serenity, for example, runs every single day, up to 15 runs a day, and we've never had a problem with an engine. The same is true for all the engines we've purchased from (MTU distributor) Atlantic DDA, from the old Series 71 Detroit Diesel 2-Cycle engines to the MTU Series 2000s we use in our newer boats."

He continues, "Second, the service we get from Atlantic and (director of technical services) Ken Houle is excellent. They're responsive and very prompt when we need support. Because Bermuda is so remote, we have our own substantial parts and service operation here ourselves, but we still depend on Atlantic to help us."
